Synthesis of 2-ureidoacetamide via Sn2

    Synthesis of 2-ureidoacetamide via Sn2

    Comment:
proteomic workers often use iodoacetamide and 8M urea to alkylate cysteines on denatured proteins. This side reaction must be relatively slow in in aqueous systems. Presumably the reactant is the enolate (or iminolate?) that may be relatively rare in aqueous urea.
